Skate or Die takes a look at skate subculture being used for commercial gain. Skating creates a beautiful freedom that can’t be replaced by mega brands and consumerism. Big institutions love shiny objects, but often kill the integrity of an original idea. The skate industry has been consolidating the hometown brands in Southern California over the last decade. Can they appropriate something that operates like a magic carpet, opening doors to another freedom? This parallels the art world, where mega-galleries engulf smaller galleries and projects.
